Richter Hermann Moore papers, 1873-1972.

Consisting of 6 volumes, 1921-1972, business ledgers, account books, and receipt books, comprising a record of Moore's personal business and farming affairs as well of his operation of R.H. Moore General Merchandise; personal accounts recorded between Moore's death in 1953 and 1972 were likely continued by his widow, Hettie Jackson Moore. Also includes bills, 1873 and 1876, to Edwin Richter, Spartanburg, S.C., for subscriptions to the New-Yorker Staats-Zeitung; diary, 1926-1928, contained in one of the business ledgers, kept by Hettie Jackson Moore's mother, Rosa Luthella Pruitt Jackson, of the Starr community in Anderson County, S.C.; and certificate, 20 Jan. 1944, testifying to Moore's service as a member of the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service. Materials relating to Richter H. Moore, Jr., include undated printed facsimile of a handwritten campaign letter from Donald S. Russell soliciting support for his South Carolina gubernatorial bid; and printed invitation, 25 Jan. [1950] from Governor and Mrs. [Strom] Thurmond to a reception honoring clerks and attaches of the General Assembly. Pictorial images include likenesses of Richter Hermann Moore; W.A. Moore, R.H. Moore's father; and large group of student photographs, mainly inscribed portraits, of classmates, teammates, friends and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity brothers of R.H. Moore at Wofford College. Photographers represented include S.C. Mouzon and Henry Bernhardt.
